Well, this is our first posting in our efforts to launch our organization, Independent Vision. The focus of our organization is to partner with schools, families and communities to promote independence for students with vision impairments. Our project, Strive 4 F.I.V.E. is for Finding Independent Vision for Everyone. We are so excited to start this venture!!

- I am one of the few, the proud, that can say that I LOVE my work! Currently, I work in Connecticut as a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (VRT). I also work as the Educational Projects Coordinator and do transition work. Prior to being a VRT, I was a deafblind teacher for 4 years and an early intervention/developmental specialist for children who have vision impairments as well as children of other disabilities. I have always been in the field of vision impairment. It's a huge passion in my life! How did I get started in the field? I was raised by a single mom who has total vision loss. I have grown up talking, describing and tactually experiencing the world since I was a kid. I believe that vision impairment is not about what people don't see but about what they do. Vision does not determine what one can or cannot do.
